Imagine . Draw . Paint . Create

Tena Koe, Hello!

Thank you for taking the time to visit my website and for viewing my work.

I am Lydia Gottipalli, Alcohol ink artist from New Zealand.

I am a self-taught artist. I have been painting with alcohol inks since 2018.

I was born in India. I had the opportunity to play with water colours during primary school years. With what little resources I had, I worked with some acrylics for a short period. Over the years, I also enjoyed drawing pencil portraits, drawing with pastels, painting floral designs on dress material, making handmade greeting cards, jewellery and other wearable art.

A few years ago at a craft show, I purchased a set of Alcohol inks. I heard of these alcohol inks and was curious to try them on my card making projects. Soon I enjoyed making patterns with them and I thought they would make beautiful paintings.

Alcohol inks are different to other mediums. The colours are so vibrant and beautiful but controlling the inks was so hard, like they have a mind of their own. They are very unpredictable in how they flow and can take you by surprise. I completely fell in love with these inks and I enjoy painting with them on paper, acetate, ornaments, cups and I also use them in combination with acrylics, resin and other mixed media.

Alcohol inks can only be used on specialized paper called ‘yupo’ or other synthetic substrates such as acetate, photo paper etc.

Surely it took a long time and much practice to learn how to control the inks to do what I wanted them to do. It was a journey, it still is, and I am still learning but every time I finish a painting, it feels so good.

Please feel free to explore my work. Hope you Enjoy!
